Hannah's top eggplant picks for 2013

Posted 11/20/2013 12:33pm by Mindy J. Schwartz.

In our 2013 eggplant trials, we had two varieites that pulled ahead of the ranks in my eyes.  Number one was ORIENT EXPRESS, a slender Asian eggplant that was ready in just 58 days and was extremely productive.  The dark black color was striking as well, as shown in the bottom photo.  If Italian eggplants are more your thing, consider BEATRICE, my number two pick, shown in the top photo.  It was also extremely productive with early maturity, ready to pick at just 62 days.  Both varieties had smooth, non-bitter flesh.  I am impressed!  Something to mull over when you think about eggplants next spring.
